TradingFAQs
What is the difference between holdings and positions?
Holdings:
These are the total number of shares or units of a particular security that an investor owns.
For example, if you own 200 shares of Apple Inc., that would be considered a holding.
Positions:
These are the collective holdings of an investor in a particular asset class, industry, or sector.
For example, if you have a position in technology stocks, it would refer to all the tech stocks you own. So if you own 200 shares of Apple Inc., 150 shares of Microsoft Corp., and 100 shares of Alphabet Inc., your position in technology stocks would be the sum of these holdings.
